New Glasgow restaurant offers ‘heartfelt apologies’ as opening is delayed by ‘unforeseen problems’

An exciting new Indian restaurant which was due to open in the Merchant City has been forced to delay due to “unforeseen problems”.

Set to open at the site of the former Cafe Cossachok, the new restaurant is the brainchild of award-winning chef Shabu Natarajan and his business partner Altaf Hossain. Named Kinara, which means “river banks” and “cutting edge,” in Hindi, it aims to bring to Glasgow’s dining scene a “perfect blend of classic and contemporary flavours”.

However, following a special preview event on December 6, they’ve had to take to social media to confirm that they will now be opening next month instead.

Offering “heartfelt apologies”, the team wrote: “We hope this message finds you in good spirits as we approach the festive season. It’s with a mix of excitement and a heartfelt apology that we reach out to you today.

“Sadly, unforeseen problems with our kitchen extraction system have led to a delay in welcoming the public, for which we sincerely apologise. The safety and well-being of our patrons and staff are our utmost priority.”

They added that they have been working diligently with experts to rectify the issues and to ensure Kinara “meets the highest standards for your future dining experiences”.

They confirmed that they are on track to open at the end of January 2024 and would confirm the date in due course.

They said: “We promise it will be worth the wait! During these challenges, your support and patience shine bright. Thank you for being with us.”

We wish them the best of luck in fixing the problems and look forward to seeing the restaurant when it’s finally open and ready.
