Bid for planning permission lodged for project on land between Old Greenock Road and Shilton Lane.
Plans to introduce a “desperately needed” storage facility at a site in Bishopton have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council for consideration.
Bruach Architects has lodged a bid for planning permission, on behalf of applicant Newton First, for a project earmarked for a plot of land between Old Greenock Road and Shilton Lane.
If the change of use is given the seal of approval by the local authority, it would lead to the creation of a resource with a number of shipping containers for “domestic and small business” use as well as parking.
A client statement, which has been submitted with the application, set out the background to the development that has been proposed for this particular location in the village.
It spoke of its vision for what it believes could be a “great community storage facility” that would be compatible with the immediate setting.
The document said: “The changes in use of the land is to provide local support for desperately needed accessible storage solutions for the domestic and small business user.
“The land currently sits as a vacant unmaintained ground and it would provide a great community storage facility [that] is in keeping with the surrounding uses.
“The use of the storage itself is aimed at long-term users, who predominately need to store household goods for a longer period of time but without needing to travel 30 to 60 minutes to the nearest facilities.”
The applicant also thinks the proposal would offer a space for vehicles that are not typically used on a daily basis and alleviate parking pressure on streets in the surrounding area.
It added: “It also provides a great local point for boat and caravan storage, which again is an urgently needed facility for the local villages suffering from trailers getting parked on the local busy roads.”
At the end of last month, the council notified neighbours of the site about the plans via letter and invited them to comment if they wished to do so.
A decision on the application, which is expected to be made by council officers, will be confirmed at a later date.
