Man in court after grandad ‘beaten black and blue in home robbery’

A man has appeared in court after a grandad was allegedly beaten black and blue and robbed in his own home.

Gus Tierney told the Record he was viciously attacked by a robber who burst into his home in Renfrew, near Paisley, in the early hours of April 24.

The 68-year-old claimed he had £700 in cash stolen, and was repeatedly beaten to reveal his bank account pin number.

Police Scotland confirmed a 25-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Daniel McCrudden, from Renfrew, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury and robbery.

He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. He is due to appear in court again within the next eight days.

Pensioner Gus told the Record his ordeal has left him so terrified that he has fled his home of 15 years. He said: “I was in a state of terror. It was a nightmare that seemed to last a lifetime.

“There was blood everywhere. That place has been home for so long but now I’m frightened to return because I don’t feel safe there.”

The incident took place around 2am and around three hours later Gus was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he was treated for concussion.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery of a 68-year-old man in Renfrew.

“The incident took place in Tennant Street in the early hours of Friday, 24 April, 2026. The man appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, 7 May, 2025.”
