A ‘wild and wonderful show’ about the UK rave scene headed for Glasgow this autumn has announced that George Bowie is set to be a special guest.
Created By Kirk Field, author of the best-selling dance music chronicle Rave New World, Acid House Cabaret is inspired by the book and its themes, bringing the culture of rave to life on stage.
The show is touring theatres around the UK in November with big-name guests appearing at each date, from Judge Jules to Danny Rampling.
Heading to the Glee Club Glasgow on November 3 – GBXperience star George will be telling his tales of “rave mayhem” on stage.

Kirk wrote Rave New World based on his raving reporter role at dance mag Mixmag right at the beginning of the emergence of rave.
He turned it into an Acid House cabaret celebrating rave culture – which is currently coming to the end of a run at the Fringe. Kirk revealed they will touch on the early rave scene in Scotland and its cultural impact.
Speaking about his excitement about appearing, George said: “With guests like Danny and Jules doing other dates, it’s nice to be the youngest guy involved – it’s been a while since that happened
“It’s going to be great to bring our own story of rave culture to life for Kirk, who missed out on the Scottish side of things in terms of his book as he only wrote about raves he went to himself, which I actually really liked.
“Kirk seems to be excited to hear about what we got up to and how it all grew beyond anything we ever imagined up here too – we were all in it together of course.
“The whole thing was about unity so it’s good to have a London raver like Kirk coming up and wanting to hear our side of things – he wants to celebrate all of it together.”
Kirk looked at various suggestions but always felt there was really only one choice of guest for the Glasgow show.
Kirk said: “My tour guests include originators of the scene Danny Rampling, current stars Eats Everything and Sister Bliss from Faithless, and local heroes who’ve carried the flag for the culture across the decades like George.
“George was a no-brainer, he has three decades of stories! I select guests for their ability to tell a tale, people who are comfortable in front of a big crowd. That’s him. George is a natural entertainer and knows dance music inside out, of course.”
Speaking about the exciting event, Kirk said: “It’s a fast-paced one-man show which mixes storytelling, audio-visual mischief, song, audience participation and urban poetry to take the audience on a strobe down memory lane back to their wide-eyed youth.
“A pop-up version of my book Rave New World – with the stuff I wasn’t allowed to put in! The theatre show is the Full Monty; part one is the 75-minute ‘extended mix’ of the 55 min Fringe show.”
Kirk did sample the Scots rave scene from the stage as he was the main guy in rave bands like Hyper Go Go and toured legendary clubs here, but he wants to hear about it first hand on stage and take guests back to those days.
He said: “We will talk about the Scottish early rave scene too, I’ll be talking to some originators. What happened culturally – the explosion and clampdown is a national story; and I’ll be using examples from Scotland to illustrate this.”
Kirk is also offering a special 25% off code because he wants to show theatre is for everyone – including ravers.
He added: “Readers can get 25% off their ticket price by using the code if they book before midnight on September 6.
“I want to make the theatre affordable; it shouldn’t be an exclusive art form but accessible to working – and non-working – people.
“Maximising profit isn’t the aim; it’s proving there’s an audience for rave culture in the theatre.
“Ultimately it’s a celebration of a more innocent era. No phones, no cameras, no judgement and no VIPs – everyone dancing together, one nation under a groove.”
