A source told the Paisley Daily Express : “I believe it’s the flats above the Bankhouse where the fire has started. I am unsure if that area is also perhaps offices.

“It started very early this morning with firefighters still tackling the smoke well after 9am. At one point there were eight fire engines on the scene.

“It appears no one has been badly injured which is very lucky given the size of the building and the time at which the fire started. Not many people are up and about at 5.30 in the morning.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed firefighters are in attendance at the incident. Chiefs however confirmed there are no casualties as a result of the fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.42am on Monday, April 15, to reports of a building fire on Gilmour Street in Paisley.

“Operations control mobilised four appliances including a high-reach appliance and firefighters are tackling the top floor of a four-storey terraced property.

“No casualties have been reported and crews remain on scene.”

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
