Paisley singing competition has returned in the search for more hidden talent

A popular karaoke competition is making its return to Paisley in the hopes to find more hidden talent.

Professional entertainer, Laura Baird, also known as Laura B in the area, will be hosting the event which will be held at The Ugly Duck on Paisley’s High Street.

The competition will begin in November and will run for seven weeks until the grand finale which will take place just before Christmas.

Laura Baird said: “We held a singing competition in a Paisley venue and it was really successful. We had over 90 applicants from all over, not just Paisley and Renfrewshire alone.

“It was branched out, which was good.

“This year, we are wanting to do the same thing again, but last year, when we did it, our entertainment company, Breakthrough Entertainment, actually managed to sign up between eight and 10 of the applicants who now work for us on a permanent basis.”

The opportunity is there for those wishing to get their foot in the door of a successful singing career.

The structure is the same as last year where there will be four heat rounds, two semi-final rounds and the big finale at the end.

Last year, the prize fund was £1,000 for the lucky winner in the competition.

Laura added: “We are wanting to get it out there and to let the applicants know that this is not only just another singing competition. There is an opportunity here for local people who are extremely talented and are looking to progress their singing career.

“We can basically take them under our wings and show them the ropes and get them into all these different venues so they can perform on a regular basis.”

Laura and her business partners are wanting to guide those that are perhaps feeling a little lost on where to start regarding their career in singing.
