Just 45 mins from Glasgow, this chippy might just be the best in Scotland after it took home two awards – including being the UK’s second best takeaway at The National Fish and Chip Awards 2026.
One chippy not too far from Glasgow is definitely worth seeking out this summer, after it was recognised by a top UK industry awards for the fourth year running.
Located just 45 minutes from the city in Largs, The Fish Works, could now be close to claiming the crown of Scotland’s best chippy after it was named in the UK’s top 3 for takeaway at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2026 – recognised as the Oscars of the chippy world.
The much-loved ‘Takeaway of the Year’ was crowned at the 38th grand gala, which was hosted by TV presenter and actor Stephen Mangan and organised by fish and chip industry association, the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).
It’s the fourth year running that The Fish Works has been named in the top 10 of the UK-wide competition – which it has previously won – and this year, they also took home the Field to Frier Award, which celebrates the chippy with the ‘best chips around’.
The Fish Works was only just pipped by The Scrap Box in York to the title of Best Takeaway, an award they’ve previously taken in 2022.
The Largs foodie fave, based yards away from the ever-popular Millport ferry, was also given a great score by a hugely popular social media channel that reviews the UK’s hidden food gems.
A member of the Food Review Club – which sends its teams across the UK to review the best restaurants, street food, fish and chips, Sunday roasts, takeaways and pubs – filmed himself there earlier this year. Dubbing it one of his “all time favourite fish and chips”, he described it as completely and utterly faultless with a perfect 10/10 score.
Other Scottish winners included Monster Fish & Chips Co. in Fort Augustus in Inverness-shire, which grabbed the Newcomer of the Year award and the popular The Real Food Café in Tyndrum in Perthshire, which was named most Sustainable.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers and a member of this year’s judging panel, said: “It’s been clear from the start that those competing came with serious agendas to elevate industry best practice like never before, and we are so proud to say these are the winners!”.
“Fish and chip businesses are the backbone of the takeaway space; the heritage is like no other, and our winners represent tradition and the future to the highest degree.”
